I'm thinking the difference is sales WHERE. Like the 2 million figure is coming from worldwide sales, and he will probably receive awards in various countries, with this award in Mexico representing what he actually sold there. Just my thought.

It's being rumored that LM will release a Christmas album on November 14, according to this article, which has disappeared. Don't know if it will show back up or if they took it off because it was a rumor:

Mex singer LM will release, internationally, his first Christmas album on Nov 14, announced his spokespeople from his record company today (Oct 5). The album "Navidad es Luis Miguel" (Christmas is Luis Miguel), produced by Warner Music, and it's being said that it will include songs like White Christmas, Let it Snow, I'll be Home for Christmas, etc. This is the first time in 24 years that an artist of this caliber and world known as El Sol has wanted to do a Christmas album. He has produced more than 26 albums in his career and sold more than 50 million albums through-out the world.
